Hi.

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you have any great tips or experiences I should check out. Always looking for more fun in Napa and beyond!

The Charter Oak

The Charter Oak

The Charter Oak has always always been fun since Michelin star chef, Christopher Kostow and his wife Martina, purchased and took over the space formerly owned by Tra Vigne in 2016, but the pandemic has really made it THE outdoor spot to dine! Now that the popular “Chef Curtis” (Curtis Di Fede) made the move to join the team (formerly of Miminashi), that’s just the frosting on the cinnamon roll. We recently had lunch here, following a wine tasting at the nearby Faust Haus, and everything was spectacular. The courtyard of the restaurant is sunny and spacious- a lovely place to dine and forget the outside world. Between the comfort food with a Napa twist, and the relaxed ambiance, this restaurant has the vibe of a French country restaurant (think La Colombe d’Or in the South of France).

I love the little touches that add up for an experience: then menu tucked into a vintage book, the silverware in drawers (one serving only, and thoroughly cleaned between diners), the warm bread wrapped in linen, served with the soft salted butter, the punch bowls, which are fun to share and delightfully instagramable, and the fascinating open kitchen, where you can watch the magic happen!

Make sure you order a punch bowl!

Foremost in the cuisine of The Charter Oak is the highlight on fire roasted meats and locally sourced vegetables from their 3.5 acre farm. Meat eaters can easily dine with vegetarians here! The general approach is family style country dining. I do love family style - you get to try so many more menu items that way!

While I am more of a brunch and lunch kind of girl - I adore breakfast food- dinners are magical as well. I like the feeling of casual elegance - where it is ok to get a little dressed up, but it doesn’t feel at all stuffy. Dining inside is a cozy and relaxed affair, you may imagine yourself to be dining in wood paneled library in an English manor. Charter Oak is an establishment that accommodates all - couples dining together, larger groups, and even family dining. Bon appetite!
